Aurorenordlys Rezension von Aurorenordlys

The story is about a 25 year old woman Louise. Together with her best friend Coco, Lou struggles through the hard life on the streets of Belterra. The friends are not only thieves, but keep themselves alive through numerous shady dealings. One day when Lou leaves her favorite café, she bumps into a young man in a blue uniform. Without suspecting that this encounter will change her whole life she goes on with her daily life. *** please keep in mind there might be some soft spoiler reading further from here*** The texts were written understandably, even for someone who speaks English only as a secondary language. I had no problems, the reading flow was pleasant and easy. Also, the pace of the unfolding of the story was pleasant. However, I would not classify it as a slow burn. The world building was not extremely detailed, but also not inaccurate but just right. I also liked the realistic reference to the real historical events of the church and the witch hunt, even though in the case of the book, the story takes place in a fantasy world. "Lou" was a refreshing FMC character. She was sassy, smart and sarcastic. I also liked that she was described as pretty, but with many marks and scars, so not perfect. She also changed visually throughout the story, so one could witness that all the events were having a negative effect on her health. I liked that she was not a "cowardly, good" girl, but was not intimidated by men. Furthermore, I liked that she wasn't sexualized and the author didn't allude much to her body shape. The MC was also an interesting choice. Originally you read a lot about blonde, or dark haired MC, but "Chass" (as well as Lou always called him) had reddish hair and blue eyes. The fact that he was a church man and rather withdrawn and too reserved was also refreshing. He wasn't a hormone driven bad boy who only saw women as objects of his desire, even if he was a bit grumpy at times, he seemed cute and often like the innocent in person. The chemistry between the two was not only funny, but also romantic. The ending of the first book packs a punch!
