Rezension von HelenSo I just read Galatea by Madeline Miller and… ma’am. Why was this 64 pages long but emotionally devastating?? First of all: yes, it’s short. Like tiny. I read it in one sitting and still needed to lie down afterwards like I just ran a marathon through feminist rage and Greek tragedy. The concept? A reimagining of the myth where a sculptor carves his perfect woman out of marble, she comes to life, and then… surprise! She has thoughts. And feelings. And maybe doesn’t love being treated like a beautiful, obedient statue. Who would’ve guessed?? Galatea herself? ICON. I love that Madeline Miller gave her a voice and a name. Her quiet rebellion was so emotional to read. The way she still cared for Paphos despite everything? That was powerful. And overall, it was such a moving story that really shows how some men want to own a woman — but at the same time, they deeply hate what women are. But seriously, the themes?? The commentary on control, obsession, objectification — all packed into this tiny little gut-punch of a story. It’s giving “Greek myth but make it feminist horror,” and honestly, I’m obsessed. So yes: it’s short. But Madeline Miller still managed to slap me in the face with emotions, and I respect that. 10/10 would recommend if you want to feel deeply unsettled in under 45 minutes. (Also yes, I’ll be thinking about that ending forever. Thanks, I hate it. Love it. Both.)

Rezension von Caroll-AnnThis novella is amazing. I personally ain‘t that knowledgeable when it comes to greek mythology but I still loved this. I also adored Madeline‘s comment before the actual novella started on how she interpreted the story of pygmalion especially since I didn‘t know about the myth and let me tell you that pygmalion was a fucking asshole..the way he talked about women in that myth is insane. The novella is a quick and short read but that doesn‘t mean it isn‘t good. It‘s a story I‘ll probably think about a lot. Also this was my first ever book from Madeline Miller and I love her writing style, I can not wait to read her other books.
