The Kite Runner

von Khaled Hosseini

Format:Hardcover

Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of the monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable, beautifully told story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Raised in the same household and sharing the same wet nurse, Amir and Hassan nonetheless grow up in different worlds: Amir is the son of a prominent and wealthy man, while Hassan , the son of Amir's father's servant, is a Hazara, member of a shunned ethnic minority. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them. When the Soviets invade and Amir and his father flee the country for a new life in California, Amir thinks that he has escaped his past. And yet he cannot leave the memory of Hassan behind him.The Kite Runner is a novel about friendship, betrayal, and the price of loyalty. It is about the bonds between fathers and sons, and the power of their lies. Written against a history that has not been told in fiction before, The Kite Runner describes the rich culture and beauty of a land in the process of being destroyed. But with the devastation, Khaled Hosseini also gives us hope: through the novel's faith in the power of reading and storytelling, and in the possibilities he shows for redemption.

"There are a lot of children in Afghanistan, but little childhood" Another Khaled Hosseini book. His books arw truly impressive, beautiful and heartbreaking. I will forever love the fact, that he uses his books to not only create art, but to also educate people about his country. Afghanistan is truly suffering. I've learned so much about it's history only through his book. He's truly great. 1981 Amir fled Afghanistan with his father, because of the invasion of the soviet union. Fleeing Afghanistan he left a big secret there. A secret so big he couldn't tell anybody. He lived with that guilt, until in 2001 that secret calls him back to where he left it. This book was absolutely heartbreaking yet beautiful. Such a good story about friendship, brotherhood, family, war, secret and redemption. So beautiful. The book made me laugh, cry, fear, happy, angry and sad. It was a real roller-coaster ride. This book really let me back in it's element no matter how long I didn't read it. Every time I picked it up and read it again I was lead back into that element. Amir and Hassan. Hassan and Amir. The sultans of Kabul. What a brotherhood. My heart truly goes out to every child, that is living in Afghanistan. Every mother, who is loosing her children one after one because of famine, poverty and war. Every father, who has to leave his family just to be met with death after. Every child that is loosing it's childhood, because of other people's reckless decisions. Every Human that is getting stoned, r*ped, abused all in the name of Islam. May God truly be with them and redeem them all of judgment day.
