Khaled Hosseini

Khaled Hosseini was born in 1965 in Kabul, Afghanistan. The Afghan-American author studied medicine and worked as an internist before devoting himself to literature. He spent parts of his childhood and youth in Afghanistan, Iran, France and the United States; after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, his family received political asylum in the US. His debut novel, The Kite Runner, was published in 2003, became an international bestseller and was adapted into a film in 2007. It was followed by A Thousand Splendid Suns, And the Mountains Echoed and the illustrated story Sea Prayer. Hosseini founded the Khaled Hosseini Foundation, which supports humanitarian aid for people in Afghanistan, and served as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.
