Yukio Mishima

Yukio Mishima (1925–1970), born in Tokyo, was a Japanese novelist, poet, and playwright. He wrote numerous novels, short stories, essays, and poems, and also worked as an actor, model, and film director. His 1949 novel *Confessions of a Mask* made him widely known as a young author. Nobel Prize winner Yasunari Kawabata was his mentor. Mishima died by ritual suicide in 1970 after a failed call for the restoration of the Japanese emperor.
