Yasushi Inoue (1907–1991) was a Japanese writer. He initially studied law and later art history, and after completing his studies worked as a journalist for the Japanese daily newspaper Mainichi Shimbun in Osaka. Around 1950, he established himself as a freelance writer. Inoue first published poetry and short stories. As a young man, he practiced judo and wrote poems. By choosing a literary career, he broke with a family tradition in which the male descendants had been doctors for several generations.
