Wolfgang Kemp (born 1946) is a German art historian. He was professor of art history in Kassel, Marburg and Hamburg, and taught at Leuphana University of Lüneburg after his retirement. His scholarly work addresses art history, architecture, photography and reception aesthetics; through his publications, he helped establish photography as a subject within art history. He has also written essays, stories and feuilleton pieces. In 2018, he received the Sigmund Freud Prize for Scholarly Prose. His books include The Explicit Viewer, Foreign Affairs, Der Oligarch and Der Scheich.
