Heinrich Dilly

Heinrich Dilly (1941–2019) studied painting and graphic art at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He subsequently studied art history, history and sociology at the Free University of Berlin, where he received his doctorate in 1977 with a dissertation titled “Art History as an Institution: Studies on the History of a Discipline.” From 1995 to 2006, Dilly was Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art History and Art Theory at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
