Werner Busch

Werner Busch is an art historian. He studied art history in Tübingen, Freiburg, Vienna and London, and received his doctorate in 1973 with a dissertation on William Hogarth. From 1988 to 2010, he was a professor of art history at Freie Universität Berlin. His research focused on Dutch art of the 16th and 17th centuries, European art of the 18th century and German art of the 19th century, particularly their relationship to the natural sciences. Busch was a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. His publications include Caspar David Friedrich: Ästhetik und Religion, Adolph Menzel: Auf der Suche nach der Wirklichkeit and Die Künstleranekdote. 1760–1960.
