Michael Thimann

Michael Thimann studied art history, archaeology and literary studies. In 2000, he received his doctorate with a dissertation on Ovid’s “favole” and history painting in the Italian Renaissance. In 2008, he completed his habilitation at the University of Basel with a study of Christ, Apollo, Friedrich Overbeck and concepts of imagery in the nineteenth century. In 2012, he assumed the chair of art history at the University of Göttingen. In 2010, he became co-editor of the Collected Writings of Aby Warburg.
