Volker Neuhaus

Volker Neuhaus (born 1943) is a German scholar of literature and theologian. He studied German, Protestant theology, and comparative literature in Zurich and Bonn, received his doctorate in 1968, and completed his habilitation in 1975. From 1977 to 2008, he was Professor of Modern German and Comparative Literature at the University of Cologne. His research focused on Goethe, the history of mystery and detective fiction, contemporary literature, and the relationship between literature and Christianity. From 1987 to 2007, he edited all collected editions of Günter Grass’s works and published extensively on Grass. Neuhaus also served as an honorary Protestant clergyman.
