Vladimir Vertlib was born in Leningrad in 1966. In 1971, he emigrated with his family to Israel and subsequently lived in Italy, the Netherlands, and the United States before the family settled in Austria in 1981. He studied economics and published novels, short stories, essays, and articles. His works include “Lucia Binar und die russische Seele,” which was longlisted for the German Book Prize in 2015, as well as “Zebra im Krieg” (2022) and “Heimreise” (2024). In 2001, Vertlib received the Adelbert von Chamisso Förderpreis and the Anton Wildgans Prize; in 2024, he was awarded the Theodor Kramer Prize.
