Jad Turjman (1989–2022) was a writer, stand-up comedian, and workshop leader born in Damascus. He lived in Syria until fleeing the country, later studied psychotherapy at Paris Lodron University Salzburg, and worked for the “Heroes” project until 2021. His first book, “Wenn der Jasmin auswandert. Die Geschichte meiner Flucht” (2019), was an autobiographical account of his escape. From 2020, he performed his solo comedy program “Der Flüchtling Ihres Vertrauens.” His debut novel, “Der Geruch der Seele,” was published in 2021. His autobiographical book “Wenn der Jasmin Wurzeln schlägt. Wie ich gelernt habe, die Heimat in mir zu finden” was published posthumously after his death in July 2022.
