Vera Bischitzky

Vera Bischitzky (born 1950) worked as a publicist, Slavist, editor and literary translator. She translated works of classical Russian literature, including Ivan Goncharov’s *Oblomov* and *A Common Story*, Ivan Turgenev’s *Sketches from a Hunter’s Album*, and stories and plays by Anton Chekhov. She also translated writings by the historian Simon Dubnow, including volumes of *The Book of Life*. In 2010, she received the Helmut M. Braem Translator’s Prize for her new translation of Nikolai Gogol’s *Dead Souls*; in 2014, she was awarded the International Goncharov Prize for Literature.
