Ursula Michels-Wenz was born in Offenbach in 1943 and studied literary studies in Frankfurt am Main. She emigrated to the United States in 1963 and lived in New York until 1968. After returning to Germany, she worked as a freelance contributor and editor for Insel Verlag and Suhrkamp Verlag. She published poetry and short stories, translated works by Bernard Shaw, and edited numerous anthologies on philosophers and writers. Ursula Michels-Wenz died in 2012 from complications of diabetes.
