Hermann Hesse

Hermann Hesse (1877–1962) was a German-Swiss author, poet, and painter. After training as a bookseller in Tübingen and Basel, he became a freelance writer in 1904. His best-known works include the novels »Peter Camenzind«, »Demian«, »Siddhartha«, »Steppenwolf«, »Narcissus and Goldmund«, and »The Glass Bead Game«. Hesse was also known for his poetry and watercolors. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946 and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 1955.
