Thomas Reschke

Thomas Reschke, born in Danzig in 1932, was a German literary translator, editor and proofreader. He studied Slavic philology at Humboldt University of Berlin and worked for the East German publishers Kultur und Fortschritt and Volk und Welt from 1955 to 1990. From 1956 onward, he translated literary works from Russian into German, producing around 150 translations, including works by Mikhail Bulgakov, Boris Pasternak, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Maxim Gorky, Nikolai Gogol and Bulat Okudzhava. His honors included the F. C. Weiskopf Prize (1975), the Federal Cross of Merit (2000) and the Translation Prize of the Kunststiftung NRW (2001).
