Steve McCurry

Steve McCurry (born 1950 in Philadelphia, USA) is an American photographer and photojournalist. He studied film at Pennsylvania State University and subsequently worked for a newspaper. He joined Magnum Photos in 1986. He became internationally known in part for his reporting from Afghanistan and for the widely published portrait known as the “Afghan Girl.” His photographs have appeared in numerous magazines and books and have been exhibited worldwide. McCurry has received, among other honors, the Robert Capa Gold Medal, the National Press Photographers Award, and four first prizes in the World Press Photo Contest. In 2004, he founded ImagineAsia, an organization dedicated to educational opportunities for children and young people in Afghanistan.
