Sighard Neckel (born 1956) is a German sociologist. His academic positions included the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and the University of Hamburg, where he served as a professor of social analysis and social change from 2016 onward. His research focuses on economic sociology, social inequality, cultural sociology, the sociology of emotions and social theory. His publications include Structured Irresponsibility: Reports from the World of Banking (2010, with Claudia Honegger and Chantal Magnin), Highlights of Sociology (2010, co-edited) and Performance and Exhaustion: Burnout in the Competitive Society (2013, with Greta Wagner). Structured Irresponsibility was selected as “Non-fiction Book of the Month” in 2010.
