Scott McCloud, born in 1960 in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American author, cartoonist, and comics theorist. After graduating from college, he began working in the production department of DC Comics in 1982. His first independent superhero series, “Zot!”, earned him the 1985 Russ Manning Award for Most Promising Newcomer. He is best known for the comics-format books “Understanding Comics” (1993), “Reinventing Comics” (2000), and “Making Comics” (2006), which examine the history, form, and practice of the medium. McCloud is also credited as the originator of the 24-hour comic, a comic created entirely within a single day.
