Sappho

Sappho was an ancient poet and is regarded as one of the earliest female poets of the Western world. She belonged to the Kleonaktid clan and trained girls from the surrounding region for their roles as wives. Her songs formed part of this education. Much of her work survives only in fragments, while some poems are preserved in complete or nearly complete form.
