Sabine Petri

Sabine Petri studied art and technical crafts in Düsseldorf to qualify as a teacher at primary and lower-secondary schools, completing her studies in 1971. From 1981 to 1984, she taught at the German School in Mexico City. Between 1992 and 1997, she worked with the South African organization Operation Hunger on social development projects, including the establishment of a primary school and kindergarten in Alexandra, a Johannesburg township. She also worked in related areas for Streetwise, an organization supporting street children. In Chicago, she was a co-founder of the German Language Society.
