Ruth Achlama

Ruth Achlama, born in Germany in 1945, studied law and Jewish studies. From 1979 onward, she translated Hebrew literature into German, including works by Amos Oz, A. B. Yehoshua, Meir Shalev, and Yoram Kaniuk. She also translated novels by Ayelet Gundar-Goshen and Yishai Sarid. Her work received several honors, including the German-Hebrew or German-Israeli Translator’s Prize in 2015, the Paul Celan Prize, and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2019.
