Rudi Assauer

Rudi Assauer (born in 1944 in Altenwald, Saarland) was a German football player and manager. He grew up in the Ruhr region and shaped German football over more than 45 years. He became particularly known for his second tenure as manager of FC Schalke 04, from 1993 to 2006. Under his leadership, the club won the UEFA Cup in 1997 and the DFB-Pokal in 2001 and 2002. In 2001, Schalke was also dubbed the “Champions of Hearts” after narrowly missing out on the league title.
