Rolf Erdorf

Rolf Erdorf (1956–2026) studied German, Romance languages and literature, and Dutch philology, including in Bonn, Cologne and Berlin. After working for several years as a freelance journalist for Dutch broadcasters, he became a translator from Dutch into German in 1989. His work focused on children’s and young adult literature as well as texts on art and cultural history. He received several awards for his translations, including the Martinus Nijhoff Prize, the German Youth Literature Prize and the Gustav Heinemann Peace Prize. In 2024, he received the German Youth Literature Prize’s special translation award for his body of work.
