Reimer Boy Eilers studied economics and initially worked at a university before turning to literature. He spent his childhood on Heligoland in the 1950s and 1960s; his family called him “Boy.” He published novels, short stories, crime fiction, poetry, travel writing and essays. His work focuses on islands, the sea and ports, as well as journeys to Bosnia, Zanzibar, Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. In 1984, he received an award for his literary debut in a competition held at the Frankfurt Book Fair. In 1998, he was awarded a literature scholarship by the state of Schleswig-Holstein. His publications include the travel novel “Die schlimmste Küste der Welt. Von Chiloé zur Magellanstraße” and the illustrated nonfiction book “Das neue Tor zur Welt. Vierzig Jahre Container im Hamburger Hafen”.
