Peter Urban-Halle was born in Halle (Saale) in 1951 and grew up in Dortmund. He studied German and Scandinavian studies in Berlin and Copenhagen. As a literary critic, translator from Danish, and editor, he translated works by, among others, Peter Høeg, Janne Teller, Naja Marie Aidt, Georg Brandes, Leif Davidsen, Jens Christian Grøndahl, and Per Højholt. He edited the anthology of Danish poetry Licht überm Land. His translations received several awards, including the Danish Translator’s Prize and the sponsorship award of the European Translation Prize Offenburg in 2010.
