Reviewed by Carina BuchwaldEliades Theorien zeigen interessante kulturelle Muster auf, die als potente Grundlage für verschiedene Interpretationen und Analysen anderer Stoffe dienen können. Was sie jedoch beschränkt, ist der in seine Kategorisierungen eingeschriebene Rassismus und sein enger Religionsbegriff, die jedoch in einer Lesart in Verbindung mit Durkheim kritisch erweitert und kulturwissenschaftlich potenziert werden können. Es gibt mehrere Stellen, an denen man fast erwartete, dass er anhand seiner teils sehr interessanten Beobachtungen seine eigene standpunktgebundene Engstirnigkeit reflektieren könnte, doch das blieb leider aus. Wenn man einige recht ausschweifende Beispiele überfliegt, lässt sich sein Text recht gut lesen, muss aber kritisch eingeordnet werden. Besonders, wenn man Eliades eigene politische Standpunkte in Betracht zieht.
