Michael Wolf

Michael Wolf (1954–2019) was a German-American photographer. He grew up in Germany and the United States and studied at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as visual communication with Otto Steinert at the Folkwang School in Essen. From 1994, he worked in Hong Kong, including eight years as a contract photographer for Stern magazine. He became known for his independent photographic projects and photobooks, including “Tokyo Compression” and “Architecture of Density.” Wolf won first prize at the World Press Photo Awards in 2005 and 2010 and received an honorable mention in 2011. He was also nominated for the Prix Pictet in 2010 and 2016. He published more than 30 photobooks.
