Michael Schroeder

Michael Schroeder, born in Trier in 1954, studied classical archaeology, history and art history in Trier, Athens and Munich. He conducted research in southern Italy, Greece and Syria and worked as an editor, author, publisher and translator. His work includes translations of poems by the Modern Greek poet Constantine P. Cavafy and of the ancient Greek songs of Sappho. Among his publications are The Most Beautiful Love Poems of Antiquity, a biography of Sappho and the handbook Kleine Wappenkunst. Schroeder also illustrated works by Oscar Wilde and Nathaniel Hawthorne and worked as a heraldist and heraldic painter.
