Martin Buber

Martin Buber (1878–1965) was an Austrian-Israeli philosopher of religion, scholar of religion and writer. He studied philosophy, German, and psychology or psychiatry in Vienna, Leipzig, Berlin and Zurich. From 1924 to 1933, he taught the academic study of religion at the University of Frankfurt am Main. He emigrated to Jerusalem in 1938 and taught social philosophy at the Hebrew University. Buber became involved in Zionism early in his career and contributed to Jewish-Christian dialogue. In 1953, he received the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
