Markus Lemke (born 1965 in Münster) studied Oriental Philology and Islamic Studies in Bochum, Cairo and Tel Aviv. From 1995 onward, he worked as a translator and interpreter from Hebrew and Arabic. Authors he translated include Yoram Kaniuk, Joshua Sobol, Eshkol Nevo and Dror Mishani. For his literary translations, Lemke received the Hamburg Literature Prize or advancement award several times, as well as the German-Hebrew Translator’s Prize. In addition to his translation work, he published poetry, including the collection “Höfliche Pfützen,” and worked as a classical singer, recitalist and Gestalt therapist.
