Mario Vargas Llosa

Mario Vargas Llosa (1936–2025) was a Peruvian writer and essayist. He studied the humanities and law in Lima and Madrid and began writing for magazines and newspapers while still a student. His first novel, »The Time of the Hero«, was published in 1963. His best-known works include »The Green House«, »The Feast of the Goat«, »Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter«, and »The Bad Girl«. As a political writer, he ran for the Peruvian presidency in 1990 but lost in the runoff and subsequently withdrew from active politics. Among numerous honors, Vargas Llosa received the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 1996 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2010. In 2021, he was elected to the Académie Française.
