Maki Shimizu

Maki Shimizu was born in Tokyo in 1981. She studied fine art with a focus on printmaking in Japan, followed by graphic design at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. In 2006, she began working as a draughtsperson and illustrator in Berlin. According to her biography, a quotation by Pablo Picasso—“Art is a lie that makes us realize the truth”—encouraged her decision to become an artist.
