Ludwig Siep

Ludwig Siep (born 1942 in Solingen) is a German philosopher. He received his doctorate in 1969 and completed his habilitation in 1976 at the University of Freiburg. From 1979 to 1986, he was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Duisburg, and from 1986 to 2011 he directed the university’s Philosophical Seminar in Münster. From 1999 to 2002, he served on the Ethics Advisory Board of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Health; from 2002 to 2011, he chaired the Central Ethics Commission for Stem Cell Research. His publications include The Path of the Phenomenology of Spirit (2000), Concrete Ethics (2004), The Relevance and Limits of Hegel’s Practical Philosophy (2010), and The State as Earthly God (2015). In 2015, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, First Class.
