Lisa Palmes, born in Münster in 1975, studied Polish studies and German linguistics at Humboldt University of Berlin and in Warsaw. In 2008, she began working as a freelance translator of Polish literature. Her translations include works by Olga Tokarczuk, Joanna Bator, Wojciech Jagielski, Filip Springer, and Lidia Ostałowska. Among other distinctions, she received the 2017 Karl Dedecius Prize for German Translators of Polish Literature and, in 2019, the Special Prize of the Karkonosze Literary Prize jointly with Filip Springer for “Kupferberg. Die verschwundene Stadt.” She has also received fellowships from the Perewest program and the German Translators’ Fund.
