Lila Azam Zanganeh was born in Paris to Iranian parents. She studied literature and philosophy and taught literature, film, and Romance languages at Harvard University. Since 2002, she has published articles, interviews, and essays in publications including The New York Times, The Paris Review, Le Monde, and La Repubblica. In 2011, she received the Roger Shattuck Prize for Criticism for her first novel, Der Zauberer, which was translated into several languages.
