Kirsten Brandt (born 1963 in Friedberg, Hesse) first trained as a bookseller and then studied Portuguese, English and German in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Lisbon and Braga. She lived in Barcelona for seven years, working as a literary agent and in rights and licensing before becoming a freelance translator. She translated literary works from Catalan, Spanish and Portuguese, including books by Roberto Bolaño, Carme Riera, Jaume Cabré, Mercè Rodoreda and Paulo Moura. In 2005, she received the Spanish Embassy’s Translator’s Prize.
