Katharina Bluhm

Katharina Bluhm is a sociologist and professor specializing in Eastern Europe. She grew up in East Berlin and studied philosophy at Humboldt University of Berlin and Lomonosov University in Moscow. After 1989–90, she moved from philosophy to sociology and from the Academy of Sciences in East Berlin to the University of Göttingen. Further positions in her academic career included the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the University of Osnabrück. Her research has focused on the political development of Russia and East Central Europe, as well as economic and social policy and the role of elites.
