Gerd Hankel

Born in 1957, Gerd Hankel holds a doctorate in law and is a qualified translator. He studied in Mainz, Granada, and Bremen. From 1993 onward, he worked as a freelance associate of the Hamburg Institute for Social Research; from 1998, he was a research staff member of the Hamburg Foundation for the Advancement of Research and Culture. Hankel has published numerous contributions on international humanitarian law, international criminal law, and the legal reckoning with the genocide in Rwanda. His books include Rwanda: Life and Reconstruction after the Genocide (2016) and Rwanda: 1994 to the Present (2019).
