Karin Steinbach

Karin Steinbach (born 1966) studied literature and communication. She first worked as an editor and publishing program director in Munich and Zurich before becoming a freelance journalist, editor, and author. She had been active in the mountains since her youth and, at the age of 22, obtained a German Alpine Club qualification as a high-mountain instructor. Steinbach co-authored biographies of Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Ines Papert, and Peter Habeler, and worked with Ueli Steck on three books. Her publications also included *Erste am Seil. Pionierinnen in Fels und Eis*, a history of women’s mountaineering.
