John K. Dickinson

John K. Dickinson (1918–2010) was an American sociologist and author. Before the Second World War, he studied mathematics and physics at Brown University but did not complete the degree. A committed pacifist, he refused military service and served 14 months in prison, followed by work as a nurse. In 1963, he completed a doctorate with a dissertation on the free-trade theorist William Graham Sumner. He subsequently pursued an academic career, ultimately at the University of Massachusetts Boston. His publications include the study German and Jew (1967), as well as essays in journals such as Liberation, Psychiatry, and Science and Society. His literary papers are held by the Marburg University Library.
