Joachim Kaiser (1928–2017), born in Milken in East Prussia, was a German music, literature, and theater critic. He studied musicology, German literature, philosophy, and sociology, including under Theodor W. Adorno, and earned his doctorate in Tübingen. He began his journalistic career with the Frankfurter Hefte and Hessischer Rundfunk and became an early member of Gruppe 47. From 1959 onward, he worked for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, where he soon became a senior editor and head of the arts section. From 1977 to 1996, he was a professor at the State University of Music and the Performing Arts in Stuttgart. His publications include the memoir Ich bin der letzte Mohikaner (2008), written in collaboration with his daughter Henriette Kaiser, and Sprechen wir über Musik (2012).
