Jeannette Walls was born in Phoenix, Arizona. She studied at Barnard College and worked as a journalist in New York for more than 20 years. In 2006, she published her debut, the international bestseller The Glass Castle, which was translated into 23 languages and adapted into a 2017 film starring Naomi Watts and Woody Harrelson. Her subsequent books include Half Broke Horses (2009), a biographical novel about her grandmother, and The Silver Star (2013).
