James Agee (1909–1955) was an American poet, journalist, novelist, screenwriter, and film critic. In the 1940s, he was regarded as one of the most influential film critics in the United States. He wrote the screenplays for »The African Queen« and »The Night of the Hunter«. His novel »A Death in the Family« was awarded the Pulitzer Prize posthumously in 1958. In collaboration with photographer Walker Evans, he published »Let Us Now Praise Famous Men«, a work about the living conditions of tenant farmers in the American South that originated in an assignment for the Farm Security Administration.
