Irene Albers is a literary scholar. She was a professor of General and Comparative Literature and Romance Philology at Freie Universität Berlin and its Peter Szondi Institute. Her dissertation, “Sehen und Wissen. Das Photographische bei Émile Zola” (2002), examined the relationship between literature and photography. Her other work addressed literary primitivism, the relationship between literature and ethnology in Michel Leiris, and the representation of the body and emotions in Romance novellas. Her book “Der diskrete Charme der Anthropologie – Michel Leiris’ ethnologische Poetik” was published in 2018.
