Albert Londres

Albert Londres (1884–1932) was a French journalist and reporter. During the First World War, he covered various fronts for Le Matin and Le Petit Parisien. In the 1920s, he travelled widely as a foreign correspondent, reporting from Europe, the Soviet Union, Japan, Africa and China. His work included reports on penal systems, political violence, psychiatric institutions, the Tour de France and human trafficking, and he is regarded as a pioneer of investigative journalism in literary form. On his return from Shanghai, where he had been researching organized crime, he died in a shipwreck in the Gulf of Aden in 1932. The Prix Albert Londres, awarded since 1933, commemorates him and is one of France’s most prestigious journalism prizes.
