Hugo Portisch

Hugo Portisch (1927–2021) was an Austrian journalist. He served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper Kurier and later worked as chief commentator for Austria’s ORF and Bavarian Broadcasting. Through the television documentary series “Österreich I” and “Österreich II,” he explored Austrian history and helped bring it to a broad audience. He also initiated a popular referendum concerning the independence of ORF.
