Helmut Jungwirth (born 1969) is a molecular biologist. He studied at the University of Graz, earned a doctorate in microbiology and completed his habilitation in molecular biology in 2009, focusing on apoptosis research. He conducted research in Tübingen and Vienna and headed the University of Graz’s Centre for Society, Knowledge and Communication (“die siebente Fakultät”). He also co-founded the “Mitmachlabore Graz” hands-on laboratories and served as the scientific director of the “Geschmackslabor.” In 2016, he was appointed Austria’s first university professor of science communication. In 2015, he joined the science communication show Science Busters.
