Helen Walsh was born in 1976 in Warrington, near Liverpool. She studied sociology in Liverpool and spent some time working in bars in Barcelona before beginning her studies. She became known for her debut novel, “Brass,” published in German as “Millie,” which contains autobiographical elements. Her other novels include “Once Upon a Time in England,” “Go To Sleep,” and “The Lemon Grove.” She received the Betty Trask Award for “Brass” in 2005 and the Somerset Maugham Award for “Once Upon a Time in England” in 2009.
